HO209vc: Delivering Effective Financial Capability Programs

This course equips you with the skills and strategies to deliver impactful financial capability programs. You’ll learn how to meet clients where they are—before, during and after service delivery—by using coaching techniques, tailored outreach and follow-up strategies. Explore how to engage clients, retain participation and track progress toward financial goals. You’ll also develop plans to support clients beyond the program, ensuring long-term financial health. Whether you’re a coach, counselor or educator, this course helps you deliver results that matter.

This faculty-led course takes place over four weeks and includes up to a 90-minute weekly live web conference session, self-paced online assignments and the use of peer discussion forums. Learners should expect to spend approximately four hours per week on course related reading and assignments. All required coursework is due by 11:59 p.m. PT on the designated day of class.

Alexis Nerguizian

Faculty Member | NeighborWorks

Alex Nerguizian has over 20+ years of experience in the field of personal and business finance from both the private and the non-profit sectors. He spent seven years in banking where he specialized in wealth management and lending to support personal and small business clients. As a consultant since 2009, he has worked assisting various non-profit organizations, both in the San Francisco Bay Area and across the nation, by delivering financial education curricula, offering technical assistance and providing coaching training and support to capacitate non-profit staff in their fight to bridge the financial wealth gap in our society. Alex has been part of the NeighborWorks' faculty where he teaches various financial capability courses including their Financial Coaching courses since 2011. Being born and raised in Argentina, Alex can provide all his services in Spanish. He graduated from UC Davis with a Bachelor of Science degree in Managerial Economics in 2004. Since 2014, Alex has been certified as an Accredited Financial Counselor by the AFCPE. In 2018, he was certified as a Financial Fitness Coach through Sage Financial Solutions.

This NCHEC Certification builds advanced financial‑coaching skills to help families budget, build credit, manage debt and reach sustainable homeownership with confidence.
All courses must be completed within a three-year period to qualify for certification.
